The medium sized village of Trawsfynydd (meaning "Across the Mountains") is situated over 700 feet above sea level in the Snowdonia National Park, ringed by mountains. It has a good range of shops and other facilities including butcher, post office, bank, two pubs and a garage for fuel and repairs etc. Just a few minutes walk from the cottage is Llyn Trawsfynydd, a large reservoir with mountain backdrop, which is very popular with anglers. Other walks take in ancient Roman sites, drovers roads, waterfalls, forestry, and of course, the ever-changing mountain views. Within easy reach by car are many other attractions including castles, museums, slate mines, copper mines, gold mines, narrow gauge steam railways, local craft centres and beautiful sandy beaches at Barmouth, Harlech and along the Lleyn Peninsular. For the energetic, there is also canoeing, riding, rock climbing, pony trekking and mountain biking. |
