Sitting
on the side of a hill / small mountain in the Baix Penedes region, the
house is located about 12 minutes from El Vendrell - a real Spanish
small town, approximately 45 minutes from Barcelona airport by car and
1hour 15 minutes (approx) from Barcelona by train.
As
well as enjoying the beautiful scenery all around, there are plenty
of other activities around El Vendrell, including Karting club Vendrell,
the Centre de Golf, Aquapark and Rock climbing, as well as Port Aventura
35 km away. There’s a bar on the urbanization with a pool table
and table-football but this is not quite within walking distance unless
you’re feeling fit and energetic!!

| The
Area |
The
region of El Vendrell runs from the sea to the mountains. The
‘Blue Flag’ beaches of Coma-ruga, San Salvador and
El Francàs (on the Costa Dorada, a coast of 7km.) are located
3.5 km. from the town and 15minutes by car from the house. The
beaches are wide and long along the Mediterranean. They are peaceful
and the water is clear and warm with a high iodine content –
particularly healthy!
El
Vendrell and its beaches offer an exceptional place to enjoy the
sun and the beach, practice water sports and make tourist visits
both within and outside of the region.
The area is exceptional for wines and Cava and
many ‘bodegas’ can be visited. ‘Torres’
and ‘Freixenet’ are nearby, approx. 30 mins. by train.
Train connections are good, easy and cheap but opening times of
the bodegas and Cava houses are varied.
Barcelona is also very easy to reach by train
(1¼ hrs.). It’s great to take the train in, have
a nice lunch, do a spot of sightseeing and come home in the early
evening – and not feel shattered!
In the opposite direction is Tarragona, which
has great Roman ruins including an amphitheatre right by the sea.
Again, going by train is exceptionally cheap and easy but to travel
South by train it is best to begin the journey at the station
at Coma-ruga (called St. Vincenc!) 15mins. drive from the house.
Go a bit further along the coast and you could spend the day at
‘Port Aventura’ (a popular fun park) although there
is a great water park right on the doorstep, AQUAPARK - SAFARI
AQUALEON about 15mins away from the house.
There is a wealth of museums, fiestas and cultural
events in the area and an excellent variety of live music events
(look out for the posters around the town!).
Between Barcelona and El Vendrell is Sitges, a
beautiful, small, wealthy town, one of our favourite haunts. Sitges
lies on the Costa Garraf next to the Garraf national park, which
boasts over 10,000 hectares covered in green. Sitges is also easily
accessible by train but there are other great places to visit
en route, both for shopping and sight-seeing and driving is just
as easy (about 30mins.).
