Outside
there is a balcony overlooking the river. Bishops Quay keeps
the sun late into the afternoon and early evening, so you
can take tea, drinks and supper on the balcony during the
long summer evenings.
There
is a private garden beside the house. This flower filled 'lady's
garden' has a gate onto the quay, and the small lawn has garden
furniture, together with a portable barbecue. The garden is
private, and especially beautiful in the spring and early
summer. You can also sit on the garden wall and enjoy the
view of the river. |
|
|
| |
|
|
| During
your stay, you have unlimited use of our sturdy wooden rowing
boat, 9’ in length and suitable for up to four people.
Boating is possible for up to four hours either side of the
high water. You are also welcome to make use of our motorboat
and sailing dinghy. Temporary membership of the nearby Port
Navas Yacht Club is arranged for guests.
Please note that from the end of October until Easter, the boats
are unavailable, as they are put away and refitted during this
time. |

| The
Area |
The
Helford has a wonderful variety of river beaches and woodland paths,
all well worth exploring. Frenchman's Creek, made famous Daphne du
Maurier's novel, is only two miles down the river, while Tremayne
Quay and woods, now owned by the National Trust, are about a mile
away by path or water.
To the north are Truro and Falmouth, which have an abundance of
villages, coves and attractive beaches, easily reached from Bishops
Quay. You may have heard of Gunwalloe, Poldhu, Kynance Cove and
Coverack beaches, on the Lizard peninsula - these are all within
a twenty-minute drive.
Among the interesting places to visit locally are the Trelowarren
Estate with bistro, craft centre, pottery and woodland walks through
their 1,000 acre estate; Flambards Theme Park at Helston and the
Goonhilly Earth Station; all are within fifteen minutes’ drive
from Bishops Quay. Many people also enjoy visiting the famous local
gardens of Trebah, Glendurgan, Carwinion and Trelissick, or making
a trip to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project.
In the nearby
village of Mawgan there is a Spar shop (open 8-8) that is happy
to deliver orders in advance of, or during your visit here. Delicious
organic vegetables, fruit, and home cooking, together with fish
caught by the Kirby family can be found at the Gear Farm shop just
up the hill. Also, a local cook can deliver ready prepared meals
to order.
